Carved Propeller Blade Carved Propeller Blade
1st World War souvenir of Camp Borden in Canada. Sadly, the photos have faded somewhat, but the carving is exquisite and is extremely unusual. The legend on it says: Royal Flying Corps - Camp Borden - Canada 1917- Camp Borden was the major training centre in Canada and trained many famous RFC pilots. The photos are framed in copper, doubtless from an aircraft fuel tank, and the celluloid panels could be from an aircraft screen - who knows. The blade is 23" long and 8 ½" wide. The pictures show various scenes of the camp whilst the top picture is of a Curtis Jenny training aircraft. Camp Borden is heavily featured in a quite scarce book called ‘Aviation in Canada’, and if you can find a copy, it shows many scenes of training aircraft and engines, repairs, aeroplane building and much more. A very important souvenir of this period.
